The House of Seclusion released! (+ a glossary)
Hi everyone! Phew, I managed to publish this just in time. Honestly, I've had such a chaotic week that I wasn't sure I'd finish on time!
The House of Seclusion is a short horror visual novel, inspired by the harem conspiracy against Ramses III and the fragmentary Middle Egyptian text, The Tale of the Herdsman.
There are a few issues with the gui still and I've not been able to make it playable in the browser yet, but I hope you'll give it a try! Although I've played around with Ren'py quite a lot, this is my first time actually finishing and sharing a game, so I'm a little nervous. I really hope you like it! I'd love to hear your thoughts <3
---------------
Although it's within O2A2's rules to include definitions (without it counting towards the 1000 word limit), I thought it might detract from the horror feeling of the game. Besides, I enjoy trying to figure things out contextually and you might as well. But here's a mini glossary, if it's useful:
- Amun - A major god, patron deity of Thebes
- Feast of the Valley - A festival honouring the ancestors. An image of the god Amun, as well as his consort Mut and son Khonsu were brought across the water from Karnak and taken on procession to visit various temples.
- Great Royal Wife - A title belonging to the principal wife/wives of the pharaoh
- Nubia - an ancient region in north-east Africa, located along the Nile
- Ra - Major deity associated with the sun
- Sekhmet - A vengeful goddess of both destruction and healing
- Senet - a board game
- Set - God of storms and deserts who tore himself from his mother's womb
- Sistrum - a percussion instrument, a sort of rattle
Please let me know if there's anything else you think I should add to the glossary, and thanks again for checking out The House of Seclusion!
